Care Frameworks

Dance is hard. We don't want to make it harder.

Australian Dance Theatre creates work that sparks social change and pushes the boundaries of contemporary dance. The creative process asks a lot of artists, creatives and audiences. We navigate rocky emotional terrain, unpack big and dangerous ideas, and relish in the ambiguities that great works of art bring forth.

We wanted to create a way to make this work safely, joyfully and with the sense of fun that is needed to encourage creativity, play and curiosity. With care at the core of our creative, administrative, and operational processes.

Working with psychologist Amanda Pulford, we formulated a framework that seeks to embed care, respect and empathy across every area of our operations. We have created a Company Care Statements, which summaries our ethos and approach to our work. We have also created a series of observable actions called 'Collective Ways of Being', that we seek to uphold through our work.

Acknowledgement of Country

Australian Dance Theatre acknowledges the traditional owners of Kaurna Yerta. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community and we extend this respect to first peoples across the land. We pay our ongoing respects to them, their cultures and their elders, past and present. We acknowledge the ongoing significance of dance as cultural practice, as interconnected with story, song and country.
