MARROW

A choreographic course correction for a nation searching for a new direction.

Existing part-way between rave and ritual, Marrow tears up the falsehoods of the past in a clear-eyed exploration of the smoky forms of Australian identity.

Marrow is an explosive work where ancient stories collide with the push of the present, imagining a bold collective future. Muscular, visceral and propelled by a thumping score by Jaadwa composer James Howard, Marrow plunges you into the dark heart of our nation.

A smoking ceremony for a country trapped by the past. Buckle up.

“Marrow speaks to the core and comes from the soul... The use of handheld smoke machines is genius. It allows the cast to control the way the smoke dances and rises across the stage, almost as if another dancer becomes present.”

Marrow on vinyl

Take the rave home. James Howard's thumping score for Marrow is pressed to clear vinyl so you can delve deeper into the netherworld.

Howard has crafted a thrilling musical journey that cuts to the core of the First Nations Australian experience. Sculpted with the medium of vinyl in mind, the record’s first side is an inhalation of bated breath. Industrial techno rhythms and droning ambience paint a vivid soundscape of mechanistic oppression. Flipping the record over provides the offering of release. An exhalation of layered voices, hints of melodicism, and space for healing, ceremony and reconciliation. Released on clear vinyl, Marrow continues in the tradition of Australian electronic music making while carving out new pathways for First Nations storytelling.

"Marrow is a confronting yet breathtaking work of art – bold, raw and unapologetic all at once ... not to be missed."
