Jana joined Australian Dance Theatre in January 2017. Leading up to working with ADT, Jana has had an extensive international dancing career.

Jana grew up in Wodonga, and completed her schooling at the Victoria College of Arts. In 2009 she worked as a professional cheerleader for New Zealand’s Rugby team the Hurricanes, whilst studying at the New Zealand School of Dance, graduating that year.

In 2010 Jana toured as the soloist dancer with Nimby Opera’s The Cunning Little Vixen and received a scholarship to attend the Paul Taylor Summer Intensive in New York. Upon her return she performed with Projections Dance Company’s Visceral at Tempo Dance Festival in Auckland and was nominated for Best Emerging Female Dancer.

In 2011 Jana worked with Shaun Parker and Company in Happy as Larry, which then toured the UK, including London’s prestigious Sadler’s Wells Theatre and Reunion Island. Jana also performed in Forseen, which included Narelle Benjamin’s The Dark Room and Frances Rings’ Debris. In 2012 she continued to tour extensively with Happy as Larry including a 3-month tour around Australia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. She was also featured in the Kowhiti Indigenous Dance Festival NZ’s Tiki Tane Mahuta.

Jana has facilitated a number of contemporary dance workshops across rural Victoria and New Zealand. She’s performed as dancer and model in the acclaimed NZ World of Wearable Arts Show in Wellington during in 2012 and 2014. She then extended her work into theatre, performing in the Conch Theatre Company’s Masi tour to Fiji and the Sydney Festival during 2013. She also and featured in music videos including The All Seeing Hand’s Lying Dead with a Bar of Soap and Iva Lumkum’s Kung Fu Grip.

During 2014 Jana worked with ChoreoCo (facilitated by Footnote NZ) on the production Straight Laced choreographed by Craig Bary. She then extended her skills, working as a Motion Capture Stunt Performer with Weta Digital for films Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and The Spectral.

Jana has performed with Opera Australia as a dancer for the production of Faust and as an actor in Don Giovanni (2015) and The Ring Cycle (2016). She also worked across the Tasman touring extensively with Okareka Dance Company in Mana Wahine during 2014 and again in 2016 to the Kia Mau Festival in Wellington, Auckland and the World Theatre Festival in Brisbane.

 Most recently Jana collaborated with Force Majeure and Dance Integrated Australia in the production Off the Record performed at Carriageworks Sydney in 2016. She also choreographed the graduate season for the full time dance program at The Space in Melbourne. In early 2017 Jana collaborated with Meryl Tankard developing her yet to be released film MAD.

Since working with ADT Jana choreographed a solo work for ADT’s Rough Draft program titled Access. She joins the company in the Melbourne Premiere of Garry Stewart’s Be Your Self and then in the National tour of Be Your Self Redux throughout VIC, NSW and QLD. In 2017 she performed in the remount season of the late Tanja Liedtke’s construct in Adelaide and in 2018 in Germany as part of the Tanzbiennale Heidelberg at Theater Heidelberg. For her performance in construct Jana was awarded the Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer.
