Australian Dance Theatre's 50th Anniversary CelebrationsMonday, December 15, 2014
Australian Dance Theatre has tonight released its much anticipated 2015 program which marks the 50th anniversary of the company. At an event held on Monday evening, 15 December, Artistic Director Garry Stewart also introduced a major new work in development, The Beginning of Nature.
The program includes a FOUNDERS’ CELEBRATION which will be held on the birth date of ADT at its very first home in the Adelaide Arcade, an EXHIBITION presented in association with Adelaide Festival Centre’s Performing Arts Collection and a COMMEMORATIVE BOOK launching in November. Held in conjunction with the 50th celebrations, Australian Dance Theatre is also part of the 2015 AUSTRALIAN DANCE AWARDS scheduled for September in Adelaide.
Touring features predominantly on the calendar, the company will embark on a NATIONAL TOUR of Garry Stewart’s Be Your Self to WA, NSW & SA venues in June, July & August. Garry Stewart’s dance film Collision Course will play on the Big Screen at Melbourne’s Federation Square in February as part of the Recharge: Experimenta Biennial of Media Art.
INTERNATIONAL TOURING also features strongly in the program with two European tours of ADT’s newest work Multiverse to French and Spanish theatres, including the prestigious Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris. The European tours will take place in March & June. Australian Dance Theatre will also tour to a new market, South America in September & October – tour dates to be announced.
A range of EDUCATION activities and events are planned for the 50th year, including programs from secondary school students, tertiary dance students and professional artists. The RESEARCH PROJECT, “Thinking Brains and Bodies: Distributed Cognition and Dynamic Memory in Australian Dance Theatre”, supported by the Australian Australian Research Council Linkage Project scheme will continue and see two public outcomes launched in 2015.
ADELAIDE EMBEDDED, an initiative by Artistic Director Garry Stewart, which sees unexpected events held around Adelaide to continue with pop-up performances of the ADT Ice Cube.
