The Company

Under the directorship of Garry Stewart, Australian Dance Theatre creates dance that is an intelligent progression of the art form engaging audiences the world over.

Australian Dance Theatre is Australia’s pre-eminent contemporary dance company and the longest running in the country. For over 50 years Australian Dance Theatre has pioneered new work that has contributed to defining dance in this region.

Some of the most laudable names in Australian dance have been part of the company’s evolution. For the past 20 years, under the artistic direction of Garry Stewart, Australian Dance Theatre has engaged in unique collaborations with artists from a wide variety of fields. With the dancers of the company, Garry Stewart has developed a distinctive movement vocabulary that underpins the company’s unique identity.

Australian Dance Theatre announces new Youth Ensemble

Australian Dance Theatre is searching for male and female dancers aged 14-18 to join its new Youth Ensemble, announced today.

This is your opportunity to join the first ever Youth Ensemble of its kind in the company’s rich history. Participation in the Youth Ensemble will provide essential, unmatched experience to aspiring professional dancers, with performance opportunities at upcoming Festivals and events.

Date: 11 July 2012

Time: 4.30-6.30pm

Venue: Australian Dance Theatre, 126 Belair Road, Hawthorn SA 5062               

Successful applicants will be required to participate in the Australian Dance Theatre School’s Classes for Young Dancers during school terms, which includes 2x 2hr classes, 4.30-6.30pm on Mondays (Contemporary Technique & Choreographic Composition) & Tuesdays (Youth Ensemble rehearsals) at Australian Dance Theatre’s studios. The cost of participation in the Youth Ensemble is $350 per term (class fees) plus additional costs (tba) for travel & costumes for performances.

Essential attributes include and intermediate/advanced level of contemporary dance, athletic, resilient, quick thinking, and passionate about dance & movement research. It is preferable dancers are also at an intermediate/advanced level of classical ballet.
