lOFT

A JOINT-INITIATIVE BETWEEN ADT AND CREATESA

A space at the top of a building, in the centre of the city, dedicated to elevating independent dance practice in South Australia on sovereign Kaurna Yerta.

Located at Level One, Lion Arts Centre, LOFT provides residencies, space to create and opportunities for independent dance artists to flex, explore and extend their practice alongside their peers locally, nationally and internationally.

The inaugural LOFT program features three tiers of residency:

  1. EXPERIMENT: A week of free studio time in ADT’s Tanja Liedtke Studio. Dancers need space and time to experiment, to play, to dream and to fail. The EXPERIMENT Residencies offer successful applicants the opportunity to test new ideas in a no-pressure environment.

  2. EXPLORE: A one-week residency in LOFT with a $3,000 grant to assist in the exploration of an idea. Successful applicants will deliver some form of public workshop during their residency. There are multiple EXPLORE residencies on offer.

  3. EXPOUND: Six weeks of studio time at LOFT with a $30,000 grant to supercharge the development of a choreographic project. Expound is the largest residency opportunity of its type in Australia.

LOFT opportunities are open to artists nationally, with priority given to South Australian artists. Collaborations between South Australian and interstate artists are strongly encouraged.

PEAK RESIDENCY

We're thrilled to announce Gabrielle Nankivell as the recipient of the PEAK Residency, who will continue development on Conjuring (or how to make the show between us), a thrilling choreographic experiment exploring live, collaborative performance making between performers and witnesses/audiences.

Ambitious, form-breaking and in equal parts unexpected, hilarious and poignant, Conjuring will receive time in the LOFT studio, a grant of $12,000 and support from Adelaide Fringe to bring the work to life.

The selection panel were blown away by the standard of applications from South Australian artists, noting the deep well of talent that lives and makes work on Kaurna Yerta.

In addition to Gabrielle, South Australian artists Zoë Dunwoodie, Janelle Egan and Motus Collective will each receive a week of studio time and a grant to develop their projects at LOFT throughout 2025.
