The Company

Under the directorship of Garry Stewart, Australian Dance Theatre creates dance that is an intelligent progression of the art form engaging audiences the world over.

Australian Dance Theatre is Australia’s pre-eminent contemporary dance company and the longest running in the country. For over 50 years Australian Dance Theatre has pioneered new work that has contributed to defining dance in this region.

Some of the most laudable names in Australian dance have been part of the company’s evolution. For the past 20 years, under the artistic direction of Garry Stewart, Australian Dance Theatre has engaged in unique collaborations with artists from a wide variety of fields. With the dancers of the company, Garry Stewart has developed a distinctive movement vocabulary that underpins the company’s unique identity.

School Holiday Workshops


Looking for something fun to do these school holidays?

Australian Dance Theatre (ADT) school holiday workshops offer a fun, exciting and creative program for kids aged 7-12  from our Norwood based studios. Taught by the professional dancers of ADT, these workshops explore physical limits, inspire creativity and hone specific ADT skills, designed for the beginner or experienced dancer.

These workshops provide a fun and relaxed environment for young people to improve their technique, be active and learn cool dance routines that will nurture their inner dancer, allowing them to try new experiences and make new friends.

Boys Only Workshop – Tuesday 22 January 

Our Boys Only workshop is perfect for young boys who are new to dance or have always wanted to give it a go!

Perfect for boys who are creative, sporty, and up for a challenge, this workshop aims to boosts self-confidence, coordination and discipline whilst also providing the appropriate technical aspects respective to age and ability.

Led by our inspiring professional male dancers, this workshop allows young boys to dance freely in a way that is supporting and encouraging.

If you are looking for an activity which explores self-expression, creativity, comradeship, respect and of course is lots of fun – then we look forward to seeing you in the studio!

Boys are more than welcome to attend workshops on Wednesday and Thursday.

What is the age limit? Ages 7-12

What kind of experience does my child need? These workshops are open to total beginners. Also great for those with some experience.

What style of dance are these workshops? Contemporary dance with some elements of breakdance. We will also focus on participants creating their own movement using current popular styles of dance.

What should my child wear? Non-restrictive active wear is recommended. For footware we suggest sneakers.

What should my child bring? Please ensure your child brings a bottle of water. Please take all valuables into the space and remember to collect all belongings after class. Australian Dance Theatre cannot take responsibility for anything left behind. To check on any lost property please contact us during business hours on 08 8373 7733.

Am I aloud to watch? Parents and guardians are welcome to sit in the studio to watch. Alternatively, there are many great cafés and restaurants on and around The Parade.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? Yes. Please bring your ticket with you. We will accept a printed or electronic ticket (on a phone) at the door.

Can boys attend the workshops on 23 & 24 January? Yes! Boys are welcome to attend the other workshops if they would like to.
