The Company

Under the directorship of Garry Stewart, Australian Dance Theatre creates dance that is an intelligent progression of the art form engaging audiences the world over.

Australian Dance Theatre is Australia’s pre-eminent contemporary dance company and the longest running in the country. For over 50 years Australian Dance Theatre has pioneered new work that has contributed to defining dance in this region.

Some of the most laudable names in Australian dance have been part of the company’s evolution. For the past 17 years, under the artistic direction of Garry Stewart, Australian Dance Theatre has engaged in unique collaborations with artists from a wide variety of fields. With the dancers of the company, Garry Stewart has developed a distinctive movement vocabulary that underpins the company’s unique identity.

General Information



You do not need to book to participate in Australian Dance Theatre School’s Classes for Adults. If it’s your first class at please arrive 10minutes early to sign in & complete a disclaimer form. Participants under 18 must have permission from their parent or guardian to participate & their parent or guardian must also sign the disclaimer form prior to the participant commencing class.

2017 Class Dates

Classes run from Tuesday 10th January until Tuesday 19th December 2017. There are no ‘terms’ as such, therefore there are no breaks between.

Conditions of Enrolment

Australian Dance Theatre School reserves the right to make amendments to its classes without prior notice or to cancel a class. Australian Dance Theatre will endeavour to notify participants of any class changes through its social media (Facebook & Twitter).

Australian Dance Theatre School reserves the right to refuse participation as permitted by law or to request a participant to leave a class if they are disruptive, late or have not paid, or arranged payment for, their class fees.

Australian Dance Theatre does not allow any person to watch class from inside the studio due to safety and security reasons. Any person inside the studio at the time of a class must be participating in that class. ‘Come and try’ is our policy.

The teacher reserves the right to recommend the correct level of class for participants as they see fit.


Classes must be paid for upfront, before class starts. Payment methods available: EFTPOS, credit card, or cash.

Currently Australian Dance Theatre School does not offer a concession price for classes.


Australian Dance Theatre School is unable to offer refunds for any paid classes unless the program is cancelled by Australian Dance Theatre School. Australian Dance Theatre may provide a refund for unexpired/unused classes on a multi-class pass if you cannot attend classes due to medical reasons, the cancellation should be accompanied by appropriate verification ie. medical certificate.

Photography & videography

Australian Dance Theatre School may take and use photographs and videos of participants for promotional and archival purposes only. All material recorded during any program is the copyright of Australian Dance Theatre School. Participants can elect to not have their photo or video used by Australian Dance Theatre School by emailing or phoning 08- 83737733.

Transportation & parking

There are many bus services that travel along Belair Road. Please exit at Bus Stop 11 (either side of the road) and visit Adelaide Metro for further information.
Parking is available on George & William Streets behind the Australian Dance Theatre Studios.


Non-restrictive dance/active wear is the recommended dress for students.

Ballet shoes can be worn for ballet classes (optional); bare feet recommended for Contemporary classes.


Please bring a drink bottle to classes; Australian Dance Theatre has a filtered water tap where you can refill your drink bottle for free.

Mobile phones

All mobile phones & paging services must be switched to silent prior to the commencement of class. If you have special circumstances please discuss with the Dance Class Coordinator prior to your class.

Lost property

Please take all your valuables in to the studio with you and remember to collect all of your belongings after class. Australian Dance Theatre School cannot take responsibility for anything left behind in the studio, foyer or any other part of the building. To check on any lost property please contact Australian Dance Theatre during business hours on 08-83737733.

Additional information

Each class includes a warm up and cool down session. Please be on time for your class, no student will be allowed in to any class 20 minutes after the class has commenced. If you wish to arrive 15 minutes early to stretch before class there is a large foyer at the front of the building. Australian Dance Theatre is a non-smoking venue.
