ADT presents Proximity

Australian Dance Theatre's new work Proximity will make its debut at this year's Adelaide Festival of Arts, from 24 February - 3 March.

Liberating the body from our everyday understanding of physics, Proximity is an immersive visual experience where the miniscule becomes massive, the singular becomes multiple and fleeting moments are suspended and elongated.

Outstanding Performance by a Company - Australian Dance Theatre

Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer - Kimball Wong

Kristina Chan to join Winter Intensive in 2011

ADT is thrilled to announce that Kristina Chan will be teaching at ADT's 2011 Winter Intensive from July 18-22. The Intensive is designed to give participants first hand experience of what it is like to be a full time contemporary dancer at ADT. Teachers Kristina Chan, Gabrielle Nankivell and Chris Aubrey will be joined by specialist teachers and experts throughout the week.

French triumph for Garry

Garry Stewart's new work created for the Ballet du Rhin debuted on October 23 in France as part of the Rameau-Richter Project triple bill. Gilles Haubensack from L'Alsace says:
"Un-black is ultimately a triumph. This peice carries the dancers in a maelstrom of erupted turmoil, explosive gestures and a nuclear confrontation deployed with a staggering speed of execution that leaves the viewer breathless and delighted. Stunning!"

Superstars of Dance

Australian Dance Theatre takes to the small screen tonight to showcase Garry Stewart's world-acclaimed choreography to an international audience in the Australian premiere of Superstars of Dance on Channel 9.

Produced by Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller, Superstars of Dance brings together professional dancers from eight countries in a unique televised competition. Dancers from China, Russia, India, Argentina, South Africa, the USA and Ireland join the team from Australia to demonstrate the incredibly diverse talents of each nation.

The next episode of Superstars of Dance screens Wednesday 20 January at 7.30pm on Channel 9.

Garry's LA Time praise

Garry Stewart has received critical praise from the LA Times for a routine he choreographed for the American series of So You Think You Can Dance.

Claire Zulkey wrote "...[the dancers] wowed everyone with a very strong, cool Garry Stewart contemporary dance that, as Nigel Lythgoe pointed out, was noteworthy for the athleticism it showed off in its dancers. The final image...was especially vivid. (Adam [Shankman] called it an "Emmy moment".)"

B-Boy legend works with ADT

American B-Boy break-dancing legend PoeOne has been training the ADT dancers in the famous moves he's invented that have become part of the breakdance style.

Based in Los Angeles, PoeOne is a member of some of the greatest breaking crews such as Style Elements, Rock So Fresh and the Groovaloos.

Dance classes starting in April

So you think you want to dance? ADT will be launching public dance classes from 27 April. Hip-Hop, contemporary technique and dance fit classes for beginners through to advanced levels will be offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights in four week 'blocks'. Taught by the highly acclaimed ADT dancers and Adelaide's leading hip-hop teachers, the classes are a fun, social way to get fit and learn new dance routines. Classes are charged at a flat rate of $15 per class (no concessions) and advanced bookings are highly recommended in order to secure your place. Antony Hamilton starts Ignition rehearsals

Fresh from his latest commission with the Lyon Opera Ballet, Antony Hamilton has started rehearsing the new work he'll premiere in Ignition 2010: But is it really dance? Working with the ADT dancers and JUMP artist Matt Cornell, Antony has quickly adjusted to life back at ADT. His work along with the new creations from 5 ADT dancers will be part of the Ignition 2010's inSPACE line up at the Space Theatre from August 18 - 21 and at the Murray Bridge Town Hall on August 26. ADT dancer Chris Aubrey's dance fit class has sold out its 4 week semester already and Larissa McGowan's contemporary technique class is close to capacity. Garry Stewart debuts 'Object' for the Royal Ballet of Flanders

Garry Stewart's newest work, called Object, debuted on Friday February 4 as part of the Royal Ballet of Flanders Ballet Menu programme. Object is one of two new works in the Ballet Menu line-up which features works from choreographers William Forsythe, David Dawson and Matjash Mrozewski as well. The Making of Collision Course

In 2010 ADT's Artistic Director Garry Stewart partnered with CM Films in WA to create an installation film work called Collision Course, featuring 48 collisions filmed in ultra slow-motion between dancers, boxers, martial artists, gymnasts, football players, wrestlers and street culture enthusiasts. A documentary on the making of Collision Course will air March 8 on ABC1 at 10.05pm. Find out more here.

Become an Ignition Artist

ADT and inSPACE are inviting people of all ages to become an artist by reworking the Ignition 2010 poster into a piece of display art, sculpture or electronic design for the Something Out Of Something exhbition. Garry Stewart creates a new version of The Rite of Spring

Since travelling back to Europe in mid February Garry Stewart has been extremely busy working with two highly respected companies. He recently premiered a new work called "Object" for the Royal Flanders Ballet at the Antwerp Opera House. He is now about to open a new version of the "The Rite of Spring" with Ballet du Rhin. Garry said: "I've been working with a video artist Thomas Pachoud and sound engineer Simon Muller both from Paris. I met Simon through Théâtre de la Ville where he recently worked on a new theatre piece Rêve d'Automne by Patrice Chereau."
